FLEUR – DE – LISZT

CARGO SHIP.

Originally built in 1957 by Arthur Moody who it is believed took a photograph of an unknown cargo ship visiting Southampton Docks and made this model which is not thought to be a true to scale model.

His occupation at the time was long distance lorry driver, so he didn’t really have any experience at model making as he was up and down the country driving his lorry,

The model was completed in what spare time and materials he could manage to acquire at the time and was fitted with a “ TAYCOL” 4:1 geared “COMET” electric 9 volt motor and powered by transistor radio battery, but there was no means of controlling the boat once it was put on the water, and if the battery ran out while it was out of reach you had to wade out and rescue it.

In 1999 it was retrieved out the attic by its present owner, where it had been for 40 years gathering dust, and being kicked to one side every time you went into the attic to find something. Consequently it ended up a bit of a wreck until during 1999 when its present owner visited the NETLEY MARSH STEAM ENGINE RALLY and saw all the models  exhibited by the Club. He then decided to join the club and get some further advice on how to convert the cargo ship to radio control.

The advice given by club members helped to get the model back into working order. It is now fitted with a TORPEDO 4.5- 15V D.C motor and FUTABA ATTACK, 2 channel radio control system.

The pleasure and help the owner says  he has received since joining the club is more than he could have imagined and it is the welcome and the help he got from other members  when first joining that spurred him on to try his hand at making other new models.
