They are fast and great fun to race.

There are many classes, but the most popular is the six cell Club or Formula three class.

The simplest form of Fast Electric boat is the Club 400 which requires just a small 380 motor. Next comes the Formula 3 with a sealed 540 type motor.

Both club 400 and the Formula 3 use two channel radios and standard sub C cells, just like those use in electric cars.

Speed controllers can be used to control the motor, but is not essential. A micro-switch can be used instead to control the motor, operated from the servo arm.

For general club racing the Club 400 or Formula 3 are the simplest entry level boat

Larger classes like the Formula 1 fast electric use Brushless motors and special speed controllers
