HMS/M Tally-Ho

The original HMS/M Tally-Ho was a WWII T-class submarine, which saw service in the Far East/Pacific theatre of the war.  Hence the model is painted in the Pacific colours of black hull with dark green upper works. This enabled her to lie camouflaged against a background of green vegetation on the islands during the day, and safely recharge her batteries and ventilate the ship.

The Model

1740mm long with a beam of 180mm, the model is electrically powered by a 6V. 10A/H. gel cell. The model can be made more or less buoyant by means of an air compressor, which transfers air from an air bag to an air tank to submerge and reverses to take air from the air tank to the air bag to surface.

The radio and electrical apparatus are contained in a sealed waterproof casing within the outer hull. The outer hull floods completely when submerged.

She also has a self levelling device which automatically operates the hydroplanes to keep her relatively level.

There are 4 radio control functions; Main motors (forward & reverse), Compressor (Dive & Surface), Rudder and Hydroplanes. This enables the model to be controlled in three dimensions more like aircraft than conventional model boat.

Model Facts

There are;

5000 holes drilled in the deck casing and 300 slots in the hull side to simulate the deck gratings and allow air to escape when diving

56 holes in the hull bottom act as drain holes.
